Taking care of our dogs and cats can be, well, time-consuming. So you’d think that when we pet parents had a spare moment to sit down and read a book, we’d choose a mystery or sci-fi novel, even non-fiction. But no, lots of us prefer to read books about…cats and dogs! So in case you haven’t read them yet, here are 6 really adorable books about cats and dogs we know you’ll love. Here at Simple Solution, they’re our favorites. They’ll make you laugh, cry – and maybe even craft.

Finding Gobi. A Little Dog with a Very Big Heart. This is the amazing story of Dion Leonard, an ultramarathon runner, who encountered a stray dog while competing in a 155-mile race across the Gobi Desert in China. As the dog, soon named Gobi, followed him, Dion’s focus on winning the race changed to saving the incredible little dog who kept running by his side. A real tear-jerker, but with (spoiler alert) a very happy ending.

Crafting with Cat Hair. Cute Handicrafts to Make with Your Cat. We mentioned crafting, right? Well who knew it was so easy to make cute and quirky handicrafts like finger puppets, kitty toys, coin purses and picture frames out of cat hair? Author Kaori Tsutaya uses beautiful images and step-by-step instructions to show you how to do it. Bonus: It will make you brush your cat more often! Purrfect!

Dog Shaming. Good Dogs Gone Bad. This book by Pascale Lemire is based on his www.dogshaming.com website and features hilarious images and captions of shameful doggie misdeeds. Read it and be inspired to share your own bad boy or girl’s naughty crimes.

A Street Cat Named Bob. How One Man and His Cat Found Hope on the Streets. The true story of penniless, struggling street musician James Bowen who adopted an injured stray cat he named Bob. The duo became famous when James started taking Bob with him when he went busking on the streets. Which led to a book deal and movie. It’s a confirmation of how our pets can help us survive life’s tough times. And in this case, go from rags to riches!

A Dog Named Jimmy. The Social Media Sensation. Artist Rafael Mantesso poses his bull terrier Jimmy against a white background (his apartment is all white), adds creative line drawings, and the results are silly and adorable. Jimmy taking a shower, singing into a microphone, in a police line-up. If you have an all-white apartment too, you may find yourself reaching for a black marker. You’re in trouble though if you pet won’t stay still.

Tiny Hats On Cats. Because Every Cat Deserves to Feel Fancy. Author Adam Ellis rescued three-legged kitty Maxwell from an animal shelter and started making him paper top hats to wear for fun. That resulted in an Instagram account where Adam shared photos and videos. And then a book. Which includes instructions and templates for making several dozen purrfectly adorable tiny cat hats. So you can make your kitty feel fancy too.
